The Research and Evaluation activities of the National Center for Rural
Health Professions (NCRHP) involve conducting a broad range of research
and evaluation programs, projects and activities. The research and evaluation
projects vary in the research methodologies they employ including both
qualitative and quantitative paradigms, data collection and analysis
methodologies.
Mixed
methods approaches are also utilized. In addition, the concept and practice
of community-based participatory research (CBPR) which calls for the
active and equal engagement of community members in all phases of the
research process also informs the research and evaluation activities
of the NCRHP. Another major theme of the research and evaluation effort
attempts to address recent calls for better collaboration and joint
conduct of research between the biomedical and behavioral and social
science disciplines. To this end, our research and evaluation efforts
endeavor to meet the need for creation of new transdisciplinary teams
of researchers. These efforts not only take place across the three major
programs of the NCRHP (i.e. Project EXPORT, Northern Illinois Area Health
Education Center and the Rural Medical Education Program) but also among
Center collaborating partners including the UIC
Institute for Health Research and Policy, the Illinois
Area Health Education Consortium and the UIUC
Extension Service.
