The mission of the Community Outreach/Information Dissemination Core is to integrate the EXPORT Center into local communities as a disease prevention and health and science education resource.

To accomplish this mission the Community Outreach/Information Dissemination Core focuses on three areas:

  1. Developing and disseminating culturally sensitive health information-(either) directly related to the research of the Center or general health information presented in a culturally sensitive manner;
  2. Encouraging and equipping the community for potential participation in clinical studies and for partnering in the conduct of evidence based disease prevention and intervention activities; and
  3. Sponsoring science education outreach activities such as K-12 science programs with area middle schools and high schools

The Core achieves its objectives by implementing strategies to maximize the dissemination of results from each of the studies and pilot projects which are targeted to the unique populations and settings addressed in each proposal.

To achieve its goals the Core addresses the following objectives:

  • Enrich the scientific literature and professional dialogue regarding healthdisparities in rural and other underserved populations by publishing and presenting in targeted journals, publications, newsletters and conferences the results of scientifically rigorous research conducted through the EXPORT Center;
  • Inform the broader community which includes clinicians, practitioners, policy makers, program administrators, caregivers and consumers of population-specific information derived from the six proposed projects and pilot studies;
  • Train local, regional and, to a lesser extent, national and international audiences on the issues pertaining to health disparities and how to address them effectively; and,
  • Serve as a resource for providing the background knowledge and skill development necessary for enhancing the capacity of rural, community-based poplations to identify and solve their own problems.
