The NCRHP efforts in interdisciplinary education are designed to address
recent calls for health professions education to become more interdisciplinary
using a teamwork approach. Collaboration among members of health professions
teams is believed to result in increased patient satisfaction and improvements
in quality of care. By drawing upon the strengths of each health profession,
patient care can be optimized.

The NCRHP
utilizes a three-phase approach to fostering interdisciplinary educational
programs and models. Each educational phase involves the development
and delivery of programs and strategies designed to recruit and retain
health professionals to practice in rural communities.
Each of
these approaches provides opportunities to promote the concept and practice
of interdisciplinary teamwork. An interdisciplinary approach helps to
address the goal of healthy people, healthy rural communities.
